 OUR SOLUTION

Reduce gas volume errors and get maximum accuracy from your flow measurement system by using PGI's ThermoSync™ Temperature Measurement System.

Pipelines maintain fairly constant temperatures below ground but the meter run sections above ground are heated and cooled by changing ambient temperatures. This change in ambient temperature is transferred to the thermowell that contains the temperature sensor. As the difference between pipe wall temperature and true gas temperature increases, the temperature error due to pipe thermal coupling increases. It only takes a few degrees of error to shift the calculated flow volume beyond the published accuracy of the flow computer and add significantly to unaccountable errors.

The ThermoSync System significantly reduces this thermal transfer from the pipeline. The patented design features a finned section that increases the surface area over 7.5 times the surface area of a conventional thermowell. The increased surface area allows the thermowell to thermally synchronize to the flowing gas temperature.

A few degrees can make a difference. Using flow lab test results, two flow rates were used to compare conventional stainless steel thermowells with the ThermoSync System. The dramatic results can be seen on the following chart:

If turbine or PD meters are used instead of orifice measurement, the results can be even more dramatic.

PGI's High Accuracy RTD Probe completes the ThermoSync System. The protection tube neck is made of a thermally insulating plastic to help block error caused by thermal transfer. It also includes a high thermal conductivity, hard-anodized aluminum tip for maximum thermal transfer between the thermowell and the sensor.

Gas measurement experts agree that measurement accuracy is most important. The ThermoSync system can significantly increase that accuracy.
